Connecting our Community

We began this concept of connecting our community project in September 2020 with a vision of making a family friendly recreational and social hub for all age groups to interact, engage, enjoy and not feel isolated within the Gerringong & Gerroa community,  by developing an inclusive active and passive recreation hub.

We identified an area within South Werri Reserve as the most communal and unique location for this project as this location has a large area of community land available, already zoned as recreational, which would accommodate these activities and more.

Kiama councillors at the April 2021 council meeting voted unanimously in favour of the resolution presented by Deputy Mayor Andrew Sloan. (see motion here)

We now want to ensure the community are aware and supportive of the project and that Council fast track their works, for the benefit and enjoyment of our community.

The South Precinct expressed their support for this community recreation project by asking Council to urgently begin the process of preparing a Concept Design and Costing for this development incorporating these activities and to present grant applications to our Federal and State Members of Parliament to consider fully funding this project.

This area of the reserve would suit the construction of the track.

Following feedback from our young people on the improvements, which they say are needed, the existing skate track could be expanded into free space.

This could be constructed to complement the existing children’s playground surrounded by an enclosure to ensure their safety & security. This project to be adjacent to the children playground.

Reclaiming of the bird life pond within the existing low level rainwater catchment area and as part of the design feature, construct a non-impactive nature track constructed, circuiting the pond. This trail to have ease of access and width for Mobility Aids and Pram and to have viewing & seating areas.

Construction of landscaped picnic/bbq facilities for the community to meet, to picnic, to enjoy and to observe the activities on this play space and have adequate all-weather protection.
